Hello Family and Friends!
Happy New Year! I hope that you had an enjoyable and safe holiday. It was certainly an extravaganza for us. We were able to play Volleyball and watch the approved movie, Frozen, and afterwards we went to a members home to have dinner and play a game. It was great to have fun and make memories, but now it’s time to hit the ground running. In 10 more days is when Elder Smith and I will hit the year mark of our missions leaving us with only one year to go. We’ve learned a lot about missionary work and how to be effective tools in The Lord’s hands, let’s see what we can do with it.
This week was incredible to say the least. I want to give just a brief overview as to what happened this week. Monday we had a lesson with a 10 year old grand-daughter whom I’ve mentioned before. It was awesome because we were able to ask her questions, share with her the Restoration of the Gospel, and give her a copy of The Book of Mormon! It was great because she loves to read chapter books and just wanted to start reading right away! Throughout the week we were able to render service at the Senior Center. It’s always so much fun there and I we really love the people there. It’s like a big family there! It helps us to get to know the people in the community more and to let them know that the Mormon Missionaries are good people too!
So a couple of other wonderful pieces of news. We just visited with our Bishop, the grandfather to the other 10 year old we are teaching, and he said that most likely his baptism will happen on either the 24th or 25th. So, we are going to be making preparations for that. We are very excited, as is he in being baptized. We have one more meeting with him to review anything else that we may need too. We hope to make this a very special experience for him that he will remember forever. Because when you really think about it, it’s opening the gate of blessings from heaven.
Last piece of amazing news! We had a lesson with another man that we are teaching and it was just awesome! Well, at the very end. So we started off reading through the Restoration Pamphlet with him, and as we were getting closer to talking about Joseph Smith, so many little things were happening that were just “out of the blue” strange! Little things that could very well become a distraction and cause us to have talk about Joseph Smith at a later time. But! We were persistent because I have seen this SO many times on the mission. Satan really does not want people to learn about Joseph Smith! But we were able to share with him a little video about it and it was incredible to see the change that he felt. He had told us that he’s been reading faithfully from the Bible and The Book of Mormon and that he had actually already read through the pamphlet! Near the end of the lesson we invited him to be baptized by someone holding the Priesthood Authority of God and he accepted our invitation!!! And just as we were about to leave he told us that he just feels so much better when we come and talk with him and that it just helps him to feel so uplifted. We in turn, thanked him for his compliment, but testified that it was really the Holy Ghost testifying of truth being told and he understood what it meant! It was just awesome!
It’s been such an adventure here on the Coast with Elder Smith! We’ve been doing our very best to Find, Teach, and Prepare those around us for Baptism or to come back into the fold of the Church, or simply just being a friend to lend a hand and give a warm smile or compliment. I love the quote by Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, “All missionaries, younger and older, serve with the sole hope of making life better for other people.”
Well everyone, have a great week and Happy New Year!
